Surgery

The most common type of surgery for epilepsy removes a small area of the brain where special tests have shown that your seizures begin.

People with complex partial seizures (temporal lobe epilepsy) are most likely to benefit from this type of surgery.

Like all operations, it has risks and benefits that your doctor will tell you about. But for many people, surgery has been successful in either stopping seizures completely or greatly reducing how often they occur. Visit the Epilepsy Foundation’s website for more information.
